"Hare Rama" - To Whom Does It Refer?

 

 We may mention an incident that took place between two of our sanyasis while we were preaching the Hare Krishna maha-mantra in Hyderabad. One of them stated that "Hare Rama" refers to Sri Balarama, and the other protested that "Hare Rama" means Lord Rama. Ultimately, the controversy came to me, and I gave the decision that if someone says that "Rama" in "Hare Rama" is Lord Ramachandra, and someone else says that the "Rama" in "Hare Rama" is Sri Balarama, both are correct because there is no difference between Sri Balarama and Lord Rama .... Those who are aware of the vishnu-tattva do not fight over all these details.

Cry Out To Him: "He Krishna! He Govinda"

Krishna Feels Indebted When A Devotee Calls Out To Him

Any person who is conscious of his friend's beneficient activities and never forgets his service is called grateful. In the Mahabharata, Krishna says, "When I was away from Draupadi, she cried with the words, 'He Govinda!' This call for Me has put Me in her debt, and that indebtedness is gradually increasing in My heart."

 

This statement by Krishna gives evidence of how one can please the Supreme Lord simply by addressing Him: "He Krishna! He Govinda!"

is also simply an address to the Lord and His energy. So, to anyone who is constantly engaged in addressing the Lord and His energy, we can imagine how much the Supreme Lord is obliged. It is impossible for the Lord to ever forget such a devotee. It is clearly stated that anyone who addresses the Lord immediately attracts the attention of the Lord, who always remains obliged to the devotee.

Krishna Is Not Different from His Name



He Is Far, Far Away, Yet He Is Nearest With Us in His Holy Name

Krishna, the transcendental holy name of God, has all potencies, Lord Chaitanya said. Krishna has unlimited potencies and similarly in the holy name of Krishna, there are unlimited potencies. Krishna has thousands and thousands of names, of which the name Krishna is the chief, and there are no hard and fast rules for chanting. It is not that one must chant at a certain time. No. At any time one may chant. Furthermore, Krishna's name is identical with Krishna Himself. Therefore, the holy name of Krishna is Krishna.

 

We should not think that Krishna is living in His abode, Goloka Vrindavana, and that His name is different from Him. In the material world, of course, in the material conception, a name is different from the fact it represents. But in the absolute world, there are no such differences. The name is as potent as Krishna is.

 

We have a tongue, and if we use this tongue to ochant Hare Krishna, we shall immediately come directly in touch with Krishna, because the name Krishna and the person Krishna are not different. We may think that Krishna is far, far away, but in fact, Krishna is within us. He is far away, but at the same time, He is the nearest. But, even if we think that Krishna is far, far away, His name is present. We can chant Hare Krishna, and Krishna will immediately become available. Krishna is available in this easy way, for which there are no hard and fast rules. We can chant at any time and immediately get Krishna. Just see the mercy of Krishna!

சேரன் எக்ஸ்பிரஸ் எப்போதும் கும்பலோடு தான் காட்சியளிக்கும். டிக்கெட் வாங்காதவன், தப்பான தேதியில் பிரயாணம் செய்பவன், குழந்தை என சொல்லி தோளுக்கு வரும் பையனை ப்ரீயாக பிரயாணத்தில் கூட்டி வருபவர், பேரும் வயதும் வித்யாசமாக உள்ள பிரயாணிகள், முதியோர் சலுகையில் பிரயாணம் செய்யும் ரெண்டும் கெட்டான்கள் டிக்கெட்டை மறந்து போயோ தொலைத்தோ விட்டு எங்கெங்கோ தேடும் பேர்வழிகள், எத்தனை விதமான நச்சு விஷயத்தையும் முகம் கோணாமல் முத்து குமார் சமாளிப்பார்.

அன்றிரவு ஸ்லீப்பர் கோச்சில் டிக்கெட் பரிசோதனை செய்யும் போது கீழே தரையில் ஒரு பர்ஸ் கிடப்பதை கண்டார். “யாருடையது இது?” என குரல் எழுப்பி அதன் உள்ளே என்ன இருக்கிறது என்று பார்த்தபோது நாற்பது ரூபாயும் புல்லாங்குழல் ஊதும் கண்ணனின் படம் ஒன்றும் மட்டுமேஇருந்தன. பயணிகளில் ஒரு வயதான மனிதர் “அய்யா, அது என்னுடையது” என்றபோது,

“உங்களுடையது தான் என்பதற்கு ஏதேனும் அடையாளம் சொல்ல முடியுமா?”
“கிட்டத்தட்ட நாற்பது ரூபாயும் ஒரு கிருஷ்ணன் படமும் உள்ளே இருக்கும் பாருங்கள்”
“ஏனையா பர்சில் உங்கள் போட்டோ அல்லது அட்ரஸ் விவரம் எதாவது வைத்துக்கொண்டால் இது போன்ற சந்தர்பத்தில் உபயோகமாக இருக்காதா. ஏன் கிருஷ்ணர் படத்தை வைத்தீர்கள்?”
“அது பெரிய கதை உங்களுக்கு தேவையானால் சொல்கிறேன்!”
“சரி, சொல்லுமேன்!”
“இந்த பழைய பர்ஸ் என்னுடைய அப்பா உபயோகித்தது. அதில் என் அப்பா அம்மா படம் தான் முதலில் வைத்தேன். இளம் மிடுக்கில் கோட் சூட் போட்ட என் படம், அப்பா அம்மா படம் இருந்த இடத்தை பிடித்தது. பிறகு காதல் வயப்பட்டவுடன் காதலி படம் பர்சை நிரப்பியது. அவள் மனைவியானபிறகு எங்கள் இருவர் படம் பர்சை ஆக்ரமித்தது".
"ரெண்டு பிள்ளைகள் பிறந்தவுடன் அவர்கள் படம் எங்கள் கல்யாண படத்தை வெளியேற்றியது. என் பசங்க ரெண்டுபேரும் இப்போ கல்யாணமாகி எங்கோ வெளிநாட்டில் இருக்கிறானுங்க. அவங்களுக்கு என்னோடு பேசவே கூட நேரமில்லை. என் அப்பா அம்மா, என் மனைவி எல்லோரும் போய்விட்டார்கள்."
"அப்போது தான் என் அப்பா இந்த பர்சில் முதல் முதலில் வைத்திருந்த கிருஷ்ணர் படம் மீண்டும் அதன் இடத்தை பிடித்துகொண்டது.
இந்த கிருஷ்ணன்படம் நான் அடிக்கடி பர்ஸ் திறக்கும் போதெல்லாம் கண்ணில் படும். இந்த கிருஷ்ணன் தான் ஒவ்வொரு முறையும் நான் பார்க்கும் போதெல்லாம் எனக்கு புத்துணர்ச்சியும் தைரியத்தையும் தருகிறான். இந்த ஒரு போட்டோவை விட்டு வேறு எது எதுவோ இத்தனை வருஷங்கள் அர்த்தமில்லாமல் ஏன் வைத்துகொண்டிருந்தேன் என்று இப்போது தெரிகிறது. புத்தியும் வந்தது”

வண்டி ஜோலர்பெட் ஜங்ஷனில் நின்றபோது முத்துக்குமாரை அங்கிருந்த போட்டோகடையில் பார்த்தவர்கள் அவர் ஒரு அழகிய சிறுகிருஷ்ணன் போட்டோவை தன்னுடைய பர்சில் திணித்துக்கொண்டு அதை தனது கருப்பு கோட்டின் உள் பாக்கெட்டில் இருதயம் அருகே செருகி வைப்பதை கவனித்திருக்கலாம்!

Krishna Is Everywhere

Krishna is everywhere. There is nowhere where Krishna is not present. Therefore we can connect equally with Krishna in Sri Vrindavan Dhama, in London, in Austin, in Riga, in Russia, or anywhere where we hear, chant, and remember the transcendental name, form, qualities, and pastimes of the Supreme all-beautiful, all-powerful, all-renounced, all-knowing, all-wealthy, and all-famous Personality of Godhead, Lord Sri Krishna. The insider's secret is that the more we share this connection with others, the more our connection becomes enhanced. Therefore those who are greedy for the strongest possible connection with Krishna dedicate their entire lives for reconnecting the entire universe with Krishna.

Vasudeva Carrying Lord Sri Krishna to Mathura

Ganga or Yamuna

As far as the sanctity is concerned, the river Yamuna is more directly connected with Lord Krishna than the Ganges. The Lord sanctified the river Yamuna from the beginning of His transcendental pastimes in the world. While His father Vasudeva was crossing the Yamuna with the baby Lord Krishna for a safe place at Gokula on the other bank of the river from Mathura, the Lord fell down in the river, and by the dust of His lotus feet, the river at once became sanctified. It is especially mentioned herein that Maharaja Parikshit took shelter of that particular river which is beautifully flowing, carrying the dust of the lotus feet of Lord Krishna, mixed with tulasi leaves. Lord Krishna’s lotus feet are always besmeared with the tulasi leaves, and as soon as His lotus feet contact the water of the Ganges and the Yamuna, the rivers become at once sanctified. The Lord, however, contacted the river Yamuna more than the Gnges. According to the Varaha Purana, as quoted by Srila Jiva Goswami, there is no difference between the water of the Ganges and the Yamuna, but when the water of the Ganes is sanctified one hundred times, it is called the Yamuna. Similarly, it is said in the scriptures that one thousand names of Vishnu are equal one name of Rama, and three names of Rama are equal to one name of Krishna.

There Is No Alternative to Chanting

the Holy Names of Krishna in This Age

“Ö learned one, in this iron age of Kali, men have but short lives. They are quarrelsome, lazy, misguided, unlucky and, above all, always disturbed”.

(Srimad Bhagavatam 1.1.10)

The people in this age are very short-lived in understanding spiritual life. Actually, human life is meant for understanding spiritual values, but because everyone in this age is a ‘sudra’, no one is interested. People have forgotten life’s real purpose. The word ‘manda’ means both slow and bad, and everyone in this age is either bad or slow or a combination of both. People are unfortunate and disturbed by so many things. According to Srimad Bhagavatam, there will eventually be no rain and consequently a scarcity of food. The governments will also levy very heavy taxes. The characteristics of this age predicted by Srimad Bhagavatam are already being experienced to some degree. Since Kali yuga is a very miserable age, Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, who is Sri Krishna Himself, advises everyone simply to chant Hare Krishna.

Just always chant Hare Krishna. Nevery mind whether you are in a factory or in hell, in a shack or in a skyscraper – it does not matter. Just go on chanting Hare Krishna Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna Hare Hare, Hare Rama Hare Rama, Rama Rama Hare Hare. There is no expense, there is no impediment, there is no caste, there is no creed, there is no color – anyone can do it. Just chant and hear.
