KRISHNA STORY 5

THE SUPERNATURAL BABY
by J.K. Sivan
Two Gopis of the Gokulam village were talking to each other when they met at the Yamuna river while bathing and washing clothes.

"Visalam, Did you hear about yesterday's miracle ?"
" Of course,Sathya, are you referring to what happened at our Yasodha’s house yesterday morning?"

"What else is there to talk about as a miracle ?"

"You are right, Sathya. The moment I heard about the commotion at Yasodha’s house i dropped everyting and rushed to her house. Already there was a big crowd there, but I managed to see her. She was crying and choking but I learnt from her the news in bits and pieces."

"What happened really ?"
"It seems a young woman, a stranger to our village, dropped in to greet her and wished to see the beautiful child born in the house, of whom everyone in the village was talking and praising and she said, she was curious to see the baby.
Yasodha innocently invited her inside and showed her Krishna lying in the cradle. The young woman said she has a baby at home in her village and asked Yasodha to permit her to take the baby from cradle and put him on her lap and hug him. Then it seems the woman started playing with Krishna for a while. He was looking at her continuously with a smile as usual on his lips."

"Suddenly the woman begged Yasodha to permit her to breast feed him. as she has been attracted by his charm and she added it will be a privilege to feed him as she was also the young mother of a baby boy at home. Yasodha was carried away by her praising the child and nodded her head."
"Then what happened?"

"Whatever happened has happened!"

"Tell me Sathya, don’t play?"
"Yasodha told me that the woman took Krishna in her arms with a big smile and applied his mouth to her breast and within a moment she shrieked and cried in agony and put him down. There was a huge thudding noise because the woman fell down."

"My God! what an unbelieve shocking sight was it? --where the young village woman was sitting there now was lying a huge demoness with a horrible face and sharp teeth protruding her mouth on either side. Her open, staring, unmoving eyes and her still big frame proved that she was dead instantaneously."
"Tell me fist what happened to the baby Krishna?"

The child was lying on the dead demon's chest playing as usual looking at everyone with a smile on his lips. There were some drops of blood on his lips. Yasodha yelled loud and swooned on seeing this ghastly scene."
Then?

"Nandhagopan and other gopas ran in and were taken aback to see such a huge demoness lying dead with little Krishna lying on her chest playfully".

"Yesterday the entire village was charged with shock and surprise and incessantly talked about the unbelievable luck which saved young Krishna from the demoness. All of them removed her to the forest, and burnt her body there. Then they found out that she had deadly poison anointed around her breast and nipples to kill Krishna while breast feeding him!"
"Did anybody find out who she was and why she came and died at Krishna’s house?"

It was learnt very soon that the demoness bore the name Boothanaa, and she had been sent by the demon king Kamsa. We all know that he was on a mission to kill new born children in the month of Shravan to save him from death.
"Sathya I can hardly believe that Krishna is alive after meeting with the demoness. I am shuddering even to hear what you told me. How is he now? I must go and see him."

There is no change in the always happy baby and he doesnot even know what happened! Luckily for him, the demoness suddenly fell dead. Yasodha is slowly recovering from the shock and there is a strict order now that nobody will be allowed to go near Krishna after this incident. Rohini has taken upon herself the responsibility to guard him always and she prayed God for saving Krishna.
What everyone did not know was, Krishna knew Boothanaa's mission and devised the plan to suck the life out of her instead of sucking her poisonous milk.
