The Question and the Answer

Krishna Is Unborn

The Question: Does Lord ever take birth?

I am from the Sikh religion, but I am more attracted towards Lord Krishna. One query disturbing my mind is that in our scripture, the Sri Guru Granth Sahib, it is mentioned that the Lord never takes birth. But as Lord Krishna does take birth how is He the Supreme Personality of Godhead?

The Answer: Krishna Is Unborn

I am very happy to hear that even though you are a Sikh, you are attracted to Krishna. As Guru Nanak, the founder of the Sikh religion, also was attracted to Krishna, it is certainly appropriate for you to be attracted to Lord Krishna.

It is a fact that Krishna never takes birth because He is eternally manifested. For the sake of loving reciprocation with devotees who desired to be His parents, He plays the role, like on actor on the stage, of taking birth as the son of Vasudeva and Devaki and being the stepson of Nanda Maharaja and Mother Yasoda.

To demonstrate that He was not being born like an ordinary human being, He first of all revealed Himself before Vasudeva and Devaki as the Supreme Lord. Then after showing that He was God Himself, He assumed the form of a small baby. Because Krishna has not born like an ordinary human being, instead of saying that He was born, we usually say that He appeared. And the day of this pastime we generally describe as His appearance day, not as His birthday.
