The Importance of Being Krishna

For generations, Krishna has been an enigma to some, but God to millions, who go ecstatic even as they hear His name. People consider Krishna their leader, hero, protector, philosopher, teacher and friend all rolled into one. Krishna has influenced the Indian thought, life and culture in myriad ways. He has influenced not only its religion and philosophy, but also its mysticism and literature, painting and sculpture, dance and music, and all aspects of Indian folklore.

Krishna, the Unlimited
It is not that we have to understand Krishna fully. That is not possible. We have no capacity to understand the unlimited; indeed, even Krishna does not understand Himself. His attraction is unlimited, and to understand why He is so attractive, He became Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu and took on the ecstatic emotions of Srimati Radharani (radha-bhava-dyuti). If Krishna cannot comprehend the limit of His own attraction and bliss, it is certainly not possible for us with our limited knowledge. If we can simply understand Krishna in part, that is our perfection.
